The wait to discover DVC’s accreditation standing ended Monday morning when the administration received a fax from the Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges confirming that the college had been “upgraded” from “showcause” to “probation.”

For now, the college’s accreditation is safe.

While not all recommendations made by the ACCJC were fully met, the commission stated in its report that DVC has “completed significant amounts of good work to address the deficiencies noted in the Commission’s action letter of January 2009. The college is encouraged to continue its work to fully address all deficiencies.”

In a meeting Monday afternoon, President Judy Walters said that she wants to “congratulate everyone that helped work towards this positive result.”

A follow up report is to be presented to the ACCJC in October 2010 to show that DVC has continued to implement and evaluate the changes it promised in its October 2009 report to the commission.

This report will be followed by a visit to DVC by a team from the ACCJC in mid to late October.
