Brentwood satellite gets upgraded

Los Medanos College recently obtained approval for the expansion of the satellite campus in Brentwood, now known as the Brentwood Center.

This campus is advertised on LMC’s website as, “Servicing the Far East Contra Costa County.” Currently it is 20,000 square feet and overflowing with students, so school officials have been looking to buy more land on which to build a much bigger campus.

The spot of interest is 17 acres bordered by Highway 4, Marsh Creek Road and Fairview Avenue in Brentwood.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for mid-2015, with the first phase of the project estimated to take about two years to complete.

The new school grounds will be about 42,000 square feet, over double the current campus size, and that number is planned to double during the second phase of the project, ending with an 84,000 square foot Brentwood campus owned by LMC.

With the campus being renamed the Brentwood Center, the school becomes eligible to receive over $1 million more in state funding each year.

Los Medanos College is part of the Contra Costa Community College District, along with Diablo Valley College.
