26 employers and an estimated 200 students attended the first ever job fair at Diablo Valley College’s San Ramon Campus.

The event, on Tuesday, April 29, was organized by Sarah Boland, coordinator of career and employment services at DVC, Joe Gorga, oceanography instructor, Ann Uawithya of student services and many student ambassadors.

“Usually at the Pleasant Hill campus we get about five hundred-plus job-seekers, so today is the trial of a first time event here, so we have to test it out, the timing and location, so next year we can do even better,” Boland said. “Employers really wanted to get out here and be in front of the San Ramon students and other job-seekers from around the community.”

The employment booths ranged from home health care services, baby-sitting agencies, Army recruitment and the California Department of Corrections, to name a few.

The highlighted employers were HomeGoods, who are currently hiring for sales-associates and offering a 10-week internship management program for students.

Skyhawks Sports Academy was offering great opportunities for students to become a part of the kids’ sport summer-camp, where they get to keep kids ages 3 to 12, busy with summer activities.

Bay Respite Care were actively speaking to students about paid opportunities for in-home care of children with disabilities.

The event was a success in both the eyes of students and employers.

Jessica Calestini, 19, a childhood development major, stopped at five different booths.

“I think it’s pretty awesome, I signed up for the A’s booth so I can attend some games and sell time-shares for them,” she said. “I love that it’s in San Ramon this time, it’s so much closer for me.”
