Mary Mazzocco is the journalism department chair and teaches Newswriting Techniques, Mass Media of Communication and the Inquirer classes. She has degrees from Brown University and the UC Berkeley School of Journalism and worked in various capacities for the Contra Costa Times from 1989-1998. Before coming to DVC in January 2011, she taught at Solano College for 11 years.

Donna Smith teaches Mass Media of Communication and English classes at Diablo Valley College and Los Medanos College.

Jon Rochmis teaches Mass Media of Communication. He has degrees from UC Berkeley and University of San Francisco. He has worked for the Oakland Tribune, SFGate, Wired and Harding Marketing. He also teaches at City College of San Francisco.

Fernando Gallo teaches Multimedia Reporting and Mass Media of Communication. He has degrees from Sacramento State and the UC Berkeley School of Journalism and has worked for the Lodi Sentinel, as a social media and marketing communications coordinator, and as senior content specialist for Rhino Digital Media. He also teaches at San Francisco State University.
