Dear Editor,
As a member of the trans community, I wanted to shed some light on the treatment of trans people in the media recently, especially following the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
While the treatment of trans people in the media has never been particularly friendly, over the last year, we have become the de facto cause behind any societal ill. Be it the “threat” of drag queens or mass shootings.
To explain each ridiculous talking point spewed out by the right would take longer than I have the time for, but anyone with enough critical thinking can realize that trans people have become the latest in a long line of marginalized groups to be blamed for tragedies rooted in systemic failures.
If you, for whatever reason, believe trans people to be the major cause behind shootings, I encourage you to consider the fact that trans people exist outside of America and check the number of mass shootings in other countries.
It is crushing to see the hate and bile towards trans people become normalized, and I urge anyone to stand up for the trans community.
