Slay boredom with softball

It is 2 p.m., classes are done for the day, and the inevitable question arises: “What should we do now?”

You and your buddies brainstorm the usual suggestions – catch a movie, grab some food, venture through the mall?

But lack of money, gas or wheels often leaves you back at square one.

Well, here’s a remedy for that occasional case of DVC boredom: Attend a DVC softball game.

That’s right.

It is fun, it is free and you can go with practically anyone.

Bring your friends, your siblings or even your neighbors. You can even invite that attractive girl in your English 122 class whom you are too shy to ask on a real date.

Softball games provide an opportunity to get outside and enjoy this wonderful spring weather. Nothing pairs better with softball than the chirping of birds, clear skies and the smell of freshly cut grass.

Not to mention the excitement of watching such talented athletes doing what they do best.

How talented you ask?

So talented they have been playing with only 10 active players on their roster.

That means the Vikings have only one substitute each game, while their opponents have six fresh players warming the bench, ready to give their tired teammates a rest.

Yet even with the disadvantage of numbers, DVC has stayed competitive and won half of its games so far this season.

Still, these women could use the support of their fellow students to motivate and cheer them on.

So the next time you and your crew contemplate ways to slay boredom, forget the usual suggestions that often disappoint.

Grab some snacks, get out to the field and have a great time supporting this courageous team.

The next home game is at 3 p.m. on March 18 against Santa Rosa Junior College.
