Diablo Valley College volleyball beat Cosumnes River College Hawks 3-0 at home Oct. 21.

DVC had a one game losing streak after a 3-1 loss against American River College on Oct. 19 at home. CRC had also lost their last game to American River College 3-0 at home on Oct. 14 and were seeking their first conference win coming into the game at DVC.

The Vikings got off to a strong start scoring first in set one and quickly took a big lead. The Hawks were right behind for the short time and very close to catching up with a score of 11-9, but DVC took another big lead and ended the set with a shot from Jade Lee. DVC won the first set 25-18.

The Hawks took the first lead in set two, but soon dug themselves in a whole. CRC found themselves down 6-2 and took a timeout, but it wasn’t long before DVC had more than triple their score. CRC’s next time out came only four scores later when they were down 17-6. DVC won the second set 25-11.

DVC got off to another fast start beginning the third set and once again found themselves in a good position to win with four times CRC’s score. The hawks tried to hang in there and scored a few times towards the end of the set, but still fell short. The Vikings won the third set 25-11.

“We all played together really well,” sophomore Taylor Chow said.

The hawks brought good energy to the room and remained positive and cheered every time they scored no matter how far behind they were, but they struggled a lot and DVC was able to use that to their advantage.

“We made sure we controlled everything on our side,” coach Jackie Ponciano-Babb said.

Both teams had their moments and many good saves, but DVC bought a little more than their competitor.

“We had strong blocks and good passing,” freshman Careli Valdivia said.

The Vikings are now 5-5 in their conference and are tied for 5th place.

DVC’s remaining home games are Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m against Sacramento city, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m against Modesto and Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m against San Joaquin Delta.
