The Vikings beat St. Mary’s College and UC Santa Cruz over the weekend.

DVC went head to head with St. Mary’s College in Moraga on Nov. 6.

The Vikings got an early lead and were ahead 6-1 at the end of the first quarter. They scored 6 times in each of the next two quarters and were leading 18-6 at the end of the third.

DVC beat St. Mary’s College Gaels 20-7 and now have a two game winning streak.

The night before they beat St. Mary’s College, DVC defeated UC Santa Cruz at home. This was only DVC’s second win of the season, their first was on Oct. 22 against CSU Chico.

DVC got off to a fast start. They lead 5-1 at the end of the first quarter and 9-4 at halftime.

The Vikings had just as much energy in the second half of the game as they did the first. DVC continued to score consistently throughout the third and fourth quarters. The Vikings beat UC Santa Cruz 16-8.

“We found our mojo. Every night we just try to get better and we try to translate that into the games. We’re starting to get guys to show up consistently and play how we want them to play – it’s translating onto the field,” head coach Andrew Welch said.

After losing their first four games of the season, the Vikings are starting to turn things around. They have a good chance of finishing this season strong if they keep up the momentum they’ve built these last two games.

For us (the coaches) it’s good to see the guys happy and in good spirits,” assistant coach Davis Lehman said. “We want them to rise above, to have them come home with a win. They deserve it.  They’ve been working very, very hard showing up to practice, playing in the rain and playing in the mud.”

Their next home games are Nov. 10 at 7:30  p.m. against San Jose State University and Nov. 12 at 7:15 p.m. against St. Mary’s College.
