Diablo Valley College has hired former Sacramento State Offensive Quality Control coach Lem Adams as the football program’s first general manager, the school announced Feb. 20.
Head coach Jimmy Collins said Adams’ background made him a strong addition to the staff.
“It’s always great to add another great football mind and someone who brings a lot of energy to the program,” Collins said.
“He comes from Sacramento State and was part of the staff that brought in the No. 1 recruiting class in the FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) last year. That’s huge for us.”
Adams announced the news on Instagram, writing, “Sometimes opportunities present themselves that you just can’t pass up,” while thanking DVC head coach Collins and the staff for what he called a “huge opportunity.”
The move adds a new role to the Vikings’ football program. While general manager positions are common in professional sports, and are beginning to appear at major college programs, the position is still uncommon at the junior college level — making Adams’ presence a notable addition.
Along with the general manager title, Adams will serve as associate head coach, assistant offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.
General managers at the professional level and Division I levels usually handle financial and contract- related decisions. However, according to Adams’ instagram, his role at DVC will focus more on recruiting, evaluating talent and helping manage the program’s roster.
Adams’ hire adds another layer to the Vikings’ staff as the football program looks to continue its rise under head coach Collins, who won a 2025 conference title and playoff game in only his second season coaching at DVC.
The playoff victory, a 30-7 rout of Butte Community College on Nov. 22, represents DVC’s first ever playoff win.
For players, Adams’ background at the Division I level is something they believe could benefit the team, especially at wide receiver.
“He seems legit,” DVC sophomore wide receiver Matthew Goodin said.
“It’s always great gaining knowledge from a guy who’s been at the D1 level and seeing how they do things. He brings a different perspective to the game.”
