Women’s Soccer: Close Call for DVC

The DVC women’s soccer team faced off Oct. 17 against Sierra College in its sixth conference game of the season, losing 1-2.

 

Although the game did not fall in DVC’s favor, it was not an easy win for Sierra.

 

The first half of the game showcased the Vikings’ defensive strength, as Sierra was granted two penalty kicks by Macie Kukrall and Taylor Morrison, both of which were blocked. Sierra later scored score a goal on its own offensive terms in the first half. 

 

Nine minutes into the second half, Sierra scored again, while DVC managed to match the goal with one of its own from Jessica Smith within the last six minutes of the game. 

 

One of the team’s lead players, Allison Noel, managed to gain an assist during the second half as well. 

 

In the second half, Amanda Sadri blocked passes by Sierra and Courtney Hart did some intense goal keeping and blocked two goals. 

           

This is has been a challenging season for the DVC women’s soccer team.  Although its overall record is, sevens wins, six losses, and one tie. Their conference record is one win, five losses, and no ties. 

        

There have been multiple injuries, with five of 11 starters benched for some, if not the entire remainder of the season.

         

The injuries range from an ankle spring to a broken thumb. 

 

“The girls are playing very selflessly,” said head coach Cailin Mullens, “and I’m seeing a lot more optimism which, I’m happy about.”
