Water polo player makes it to UC Berkeley

DVC student Ayal Keren is getting a full ride to the University of California, Berkeley on a water polo scholarship. The 6-foot-2-inch utility player is getting one of only four Water Polo scholarships given away at UC Berkeley.

Keren is from Tivon, Israel and has wanted to go to UC Berkeley for all his life. He was the Junior College player of the year in 2010 and led DVC to a conference championship.

“Ayal is an excellent all around athlete who will bring experience and maturity to an already experienced team,” said Kirk Everist, UC Berkeley water polo coach.

Keren has a 3.8 GPA to match his water polo record. “It’s one thing to be good in the pool, it’s another to be good in the classroom and Ayal is good in both,” DVC coach John Roemer said.

Keren is the third DVC water polo player to go to UC Berkeley; Roemer was the first.
