Pedestrian struck by car near campus

A young Asian woman sustained minor injuries Feb. 17 after she was struck by a car in the crosswalk on Golf Club Road near the Camel Back apartment complex.

Officer A.J. Biama of Pleasant Hill Police said she chose not to be taken to a hospital, despite injuries to her legs and left shoulder.

Biama refused to identify either the victim or the driver of the car, who was not injured and remained at the scene. He said the driver was not paying attention.

The accident occurred around noon as students were leaving classes for lunch. As the young woman lay on the pavement, cars stopped and people called 911 on their cell phones. Police from DVC and Pleasant Hill, as well paramedics, responded within minutes.

A witness told The Inquirer the victim had just stepped out from the median, headed towards DVC when she was struck by a car traveling eastbound on Golf Club Road.

“She hit the hood, and [the driver] stopped, realizing he had hit someone,” the witness said. “She was unconscious for a minute or so and then sat up, holding her head.”

As paramedics talked with the victim, police investigated the scene. She later left, walking back across Golf Club Road towards the apartment complex.
