Job fairs to bring opportunities to students

Two events to help DVC students prepare for job searches will be held April 10 and April 21 in the cafeteria.

The first event, an “Employment Resources Fair,” is sponsored by Cong. John Garamendi’s office and is open to all students and community members. It is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sarah Boland, coordinator of DVC’s Career and Employment Services, said the focus will be one-on-one sessions to critique resumes and workshops on networking and job searches.

The event also includes how and where to look for a job, tips on interviewing, and important resources, such as “green” training programs, local employer training programs, and other community resources, Boland said.

The second event is the April 21 job fair.

Companies such as the Contra Costa Sanitary District and Chevron will be represented, along with other groups, like Stand Against Domestic Violence and the Peace Corp.

“Last year, more than 700 students attended and met with 31 employers, Boland said. “We expect to see the same amount, if not more employers at this year’s events.”

The job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
