The agony of defeat

Fantasy Football isn’t just triumph and trash-talk. I’m coming off a week of really solid and humiliating losses across several leagues. How does eating crow taste? It tastes terrible. Pierre Garcon came back healthy but didn’t produce, Griffin III confirmed suspicion that he was undersized by NFL standards, making him a risk for injury. James Starks is still on the shelf with his turf toe injury, in spite of previous reports that he would play and even Mike Wallace (who had a TD catch in each game leading up to the week 4 bye) disappointed owners who’d come to depend on that level of red-zone production.

Don’t lose faith!

In this, the first, last-minute, knee-jerk posting; I’ll provide a list of players who are poised to turn things around in the near future. If you need your Fantasy Squad to turn things around too, be sure to pay attention.

Pierre Garcon (WR-Was)- The Waiter looked like he spent most of week five on a smoke break, but if you watched his break-away speed in action Week 1, you know that he’s got the skills to serve tables. If you spot Frenchy on the wire this week, snap him up or buy low from a disgruntled owner. Pretty soon, The Waiter will find his place among a healthy Redskins’ Offense, be sure that you’re the one doing the ‘serving’ and not the one ‘getting served’.

Coby Fleener (TE- Ind)- There’s no match for good chemistry. The Colts rallied around a hospitalized coach last week, if they’re going to continue that upward trend, Fleener needs to become a reliable red-zone target.

James Starks (RB- GB)- Turf Toe, the most dreaded of all injuries. It nags, it lingers, it flairs up without notice. As much as I hated looking at the 0 opposite Starks’ name last week, in my starting lineup, Cedric Benson’s injury left the door wide open for this Green Bay Runner.

Josh Freeman (QB- TB)- Much was made of the acquisition of Vincent Jackson this offseason, and Doug Martin looks to be “for real”. Lots of things are going right for the Bucs this year, but so far, the QB stats aren’t one of those things. As the team continues to gel and sneak by high-ranked opponents, Freeman’s numbers will improve.

That’s all for now readers, I’ll try to do MUCH better next week.
