Vikings set trap for Bear Cubs

DVC’s easiest victory of the season yet; dominating the Santa Rosa Bear Cubs.

DVC’s men’s water polo matched up against the Santa Rosa Bear Cubs on Wednesday, Oct. 2, and came out with a triumphant victory of 29-4. Head coach John Roemer had this to say: “The first half went very well, our main goal is offense. Except for the game where we played UC Irvine, we shoot to score at least 10 goals per match.”

The first goal scored against Santa Rosa was made by forward Eduardo Cuomo with a strong shot to the back net after an intimidating rush. During the first quarter, the first ejection for Santa Rosa commenced at 3:45 when a Bear Cub player pulled violently on Jimmy Lebeau’s back leg. This resulted in Santa Rosa’s first penalty as well.

This game was a very obvious and fairly effortless win for the Vikings and confidence was evident in DVC’s performance.

“I feel amazing. I’m so proud of my team. This match is so easy it’s a joke. And you can see how hungry we are when we play,” said goalie Amichai Bloch at half time. “Our team spirit is our biggest motivation. We all have great friendships but when it comes down to it, we know how to work together effectively and come together as a team.”

DVC scored 12 goals within the first quarter, a key element to their success in the first half. Building an early lead gave the Vikings the thumbs up and go-ahead to push harder and control the match.

“[The game] went great. They [Bear Cubs] ended up scoring nothing against us,” said Roemer at the halfway mark. At the close of the first half, DVC was still in the lead. It was very clear by the stamina of the Vikings that Santa Rosa would not have an opportunity to make a comeback.

“This game’s main focus was to keep them pushed back. We didn’t want them to score any goals, and Amichai didn’t let that happen. Ami did awesome,” Roemer said.

More excellent plays and team strength gave DVC momentum into the third and fourth quarters, and DVC celebrated their triumph in and out of the pool.

“This season is going great,” top-scoring driver Marco Sadikovic said. “The season should end up with us on top…Our goal is to make it to state and we’re all really excited and working hard to get there.”
