Diablo Valley College women’s soccer team finished the 2016 season ranked number two in California.

Coach Cailin Mullins expressed the need to “Put away more goals,” throughout the season, which is where they fell short in their season ending defeat.

The Vikings record breaking season lead them to the CCCAA State Championship Finals against Cerritos College in Ventura, CA on Dec. 4, where they suffered a 2-0 loss in double overtime.

After the game, midfielder Vanessa Ruvalcaba tweeted, “What an incredible season it’s been.”

DVC’s first match in Ventura resulted in a 2-0 victory against Santa Barbara in the CCCAA State Championship semifinal on Dec. 2.

The Big 8 Conference Champions hosted rounds one, two and three of the CCCAA Women’s Soccer Playoffs, only allowing the opponents to score once to their 11 goals in three games.

“We worked so hard to get where are,” defender Deiziana Dargan said after their last regular season win against American River College on Nov. 8.

The Vikings started off strong and remained undefeated two-thirds into the season until their 2-1 loss against Santa Rosa Junior College on Oct. 14.

Mid-season DVC tied nearly as many games as they won.

“The demands of the season caught up,” Mullins said.

The team found their rhythm again which lead them to a five game winning streak going into the finals.

DVC’s season opening 4-0 win against Cabrillo College on August. 26 proved they had what it took to make it far.

The Vikings have ended their season with 61 goals and a 18-2-6 overall record.
