Kicking off the DVC fall 2014 drama season, “The Wedding Singer” is set to serenade its way into audiences hearts.

Lisa Drummond, who directed last year’s production of “Zombie Prom,” will also direct this year’s highly anticipated production of the “The Wedding Singer.”

Drummond will be supported by musical director Enrico Banson and choreographer Amanda Boyan.

“We try to pick musicals that are money smart, but mostly ones that appeal to DVC students,” said drama advisor Beth McBrien. “We have a very high caliber group of students, staff members and technicians this year with incredible work ethic. The upcoming performances this year will certainly reflect this talent starting with Lisa’s ‘The Wedding Singer.'”

This theatrical rendition is based on the 1998 Hollywood production, which starred Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

The romantic comedy tells the story of rockstar wanna-be Robbie Hart as a popular New Jersey wedding singer, who’s fiancee leaves him standing at the Altar. Due to his heartbreak Robbie attempts to make everyone else’s wedding as disastrous as his own. Only when he meets Julia, a lovely waitress who is engaged to be married to a Wall Street shark, does Robbie realize that he can love again and tries to win Julia’s heart.

“It’s a big show with lots of energy, as well as lots of fun for everyone!” says Drummond. “I am very excited to be opening this season with ‘The Wedding Singer!’
