*Web Exclusive* Vikings’ tie in cliffhanger against Modesto

DVC wasn’t able to hold onto a 3-1 lead with 37:11 left in the game Wednesday against Modesto.

Modesto scored twice in the second half with the last goal coming with a little over eight minutes to go to even the score and forced the Vikings to settle for the 3-3 tie.

Most of the game was played on Modesto’s side of the field with DVC staying aggressive on offense.

The Vikings had a handful of scoring chances in the final 15 minutes, but were unable to put the game away with a goal, and it came back to haunt them.

The scoring started fast, with DVC’s Kristen Elms tallying her team leading, 19, goal of the season 30 seconds into the game on a breakaway down the ride side.

But Modesto would tie the score less than a minute and a half later.

Elms was blanketed by defenders throughout the game after her first goal and wasn’t able to get free and put another shot on goal.

Jenna Simone added a goal with 7:36 remaining in the half to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead.

Molly Holm added another goal just five minutes into the second half on a lead pass up the middle by Simone to make it 3-1.

With the tie DVC sees its record sit at 10-7-2 with a conference record of 6-5-2 which is good enough for no. 10 in Northern California.

The Vikings now play host to Santa Rosa on Thursday in DVC’s last game of the season.

With Santa Rosa sitting first in the conference and no. 3 in Northern California, DVC needs a win to improve its case for playoffs and hosting a first round playoff game.
