David Vela, English instructor, plans to discuss the influence of literacy on culture throughout the centuries in his discussion “Latin, American and English: Jorge Luis Borges and Self-Discovery.”

In drawing from the works of the late Jorge Luis Borges, Vela outlines an important trend in the construction of language, in particular the influence of linguists’ language usage.

In reviewing works originally suppressed by Borges, Vela has come upon a connection between Borges’ early works and the literary style of James Joyce.

His discussion will be held on April 6, 2011 from 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center and on April 7, 2011 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Trophy Room.
