Long overdue construction hinders campus mobility

Amidst the construction zone in the quad, students harbor growing concerns about the accessibility of the campus.

 “The fact that the fences are blocking the way I want to go messes up my energy; it’s annoying,” music major Ernesto Jasso said.

The construction will last for four phases. First, the site will be prepared and utilities will be updated this semester.

In Fall 2012, the new South Building will be finished and the student services building will be destroyed. During these phases, which will last 18 months, the fencing that is surrounding the quad will remain in place.

In Spring 2014, the North Building will be finished and the Student Services and HRM building will be demolished. The new Commons Area and campus entrance will be completed in Fall 2014.

With the new detours around the construction zone, some students faced initial challenges navigating the campus’ previous geographical focal point.
