ASDVC Vice President of Executive Affairs Keith Montes suddenly resigned Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Montes didn’t divulge the details of his sudden resignation but stated in his resignation letter it was “due to personal reasons which were unforeseen.”

“I’m happy with the progress that has been made during my term,” Montes said. “The contributions I’ve made have benefited and improved the organization.”

ASDVC President Sam Park learned about the resignation only thirty minutes before the Tuesday’s meeting started.

“I am really surprised,” Park said. “But I respect his choices and he knows what’s best for him. I will miss him personally and professionally.”

According to board member Eli Ziskin, Montes had been dealing with personal issues throughout the semester. “He left in a timely manner,” Ziskin said. “I have a lot of respect for him for sticking it through to the end.”

Montes brought motivation, optimism and structure to the ASDVC, according to Park.

DVC Student Scott Brown, Montes’ friend and a regular participant in ASDVC meetings, feels Montes’ has been extremely important to the overall development of the ASDVC.

“He has been a positive force in the current movement forward,” Brown said. “He will be sorely missed.”

Montes, who also goes by Hakeem, participates in other campus organizations, acting as president of both the Muslim Student Association and F.R.E.E. He is also a staff member at The Inquirer.
