Letter to the editor: Getting solicitors off campus

A.J. Boucher, DVC student

DVC is a place where people come to get an education, not an area for activists to gain supporters.

During the Fall 2012 Semester, I passed a sign that said “Warning: What you are about to see is graphic.” I barely peaked over the sign and before seeing a picture of a dead baby inside a woman’s uterus. I then discovered that they were an anti-abortion group and I walked away in disgust. I was flabbergasted that DVC would even allow an anti-abortion group to be in campus showcasing their issue.

My suggestion is for DVC campus security to escort solicitors off campus. They bother students when going to class and the number of solicitors each semester is increases.

DVC student Tiara Christopher said, “I hate getting asked if I’m registered to vote every week. They really need to take their cause somewhere else.”

DVC needs to do a better job patrolling the campus, keeping their eyes out for irritating solicitors and activist groups. Students should not be disturbed by them walking to and from classes.
