The Diablo Valley College Viking’s softball team hosted the Ohlone Renegades on Feb. 2, in a tie game 3-3 after seven innings.

Due to daylight conditions and no lights on the field, the game has been halted until the next rematch between the two teams on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. DVC was holding onto the lead until the top of the seventh when Ohlone scored leaving the score 3-3.

Pitcher Nicole Nordahl opened the game in the circle to start the season off in full swing. Nordahl pitched all game with accuracy and speed.

“Our team last year hosted a regional playoff and made it to the super regional,” said Head Coach Dennis Luquet. “This year our goal is to go further than last year. I feel we will challenge for the Big 8 championship.”

Luquet continued, “We return all-league first team players: pitcher Nicole Nordahl, 1st baseman Cynthia Duenas, third baseman Bailey Simmons and outfielders Julia Pelletier and Laurel Poff. Our freshman class is outstanding.”

Sophomore outfielder Julia Pelletier said, “Our whole team can hit the ball, we just need to start being smart about where we are placing the ball and not leave people on base when we are in need of runs.”

In speaking about her teammates, Pelletier said, “My favorite part about the team this year is even though we have not been playing together for long we click very well and that will be one of our key strengths this season.”

Looking ahead to the rest of the semester, Coach Luquet said, “Our team defense needs to get better and our execution on offense needs to improve.”

Come see DVC face off in a double header at home on Feb. 16 starting at 1 p.m. followed by the next game at 3 p.m. both against Solano.
