Diablo Valley College certainly had their hands full early against the City College of San Francisco Rams.

Offense was minimal in the first quarter as San Francisco’s quarterback Lavell McCullers netted a long 77 yard run for a touchdown. When taking note of the struggles early, Coach Mike Darr of Diablo Valley said, “They got the big play they needed and got it rolling.”

Midway through the second quarter the Vikings allowed a touchdown to Kevin Shaa of San Francisco City. Unable to respond on the following possession DVC coughed up the ball and allowed a fumble which was recovered by San Francisco. Although the Vikings defense was able to keep San Francisco from scoring on that drive.

San Francisco would score another time before the half was over. The Rams would get the ball to begin the second half already leading 21-0.

On the first drive of the second half San Francisco would score on a 38 yard rush by Lorenzo Logwood. The Rams increased their lead 28-0 over the Vikings and before the third quarter had ended, San Francisco would score to increase their lead to 35-0 keeping DVC scoreless going into the final quarter. DVC wide receiver, Marquese Surrell, remained positive as he said, “Never give up until zero is on the clock.”

San Francisco quarterback Lavell McCullers had a stellar game as he recorded another passing touchdown, his third of the game, and a rushing touchdown by Tanner Piccolotti gave CCSF a 49-0 point lead.

DVC came away with a number of empty possessions — in a frustrating game — before they scored on a passing touchdown to Miles Harrison late in the game to avoid being shut out. On the sideline no. 38 Jeff Hansen yelled to Miles Harrison, “Take it to the house.”

The Vikings avoided being shutout and look to rebound next week.
