The Diablo Valley College Vikings volleyball team beat Big 8 conference rivals Folsom Lake College Falcons 3-2 at home.

DVC was on a two game losing streak and came prepared with a new game plan according to coach Jackie Ponciano-Babb.

“We need to shut them down,” coach Ponciano-Babb said.

The Vikings started off strong and stayed on top most of set one and won it 25-22.

Folsom Lake took an early lead in set two and remained ahead the entire set with double DVC’s score at times while the Vikings struggled to get a rhythm going. Folsom Lake won 25-15.

The game was tied at 1-1 and DVC started set three smiling and giving each other high fives as the crowd said “Let’s go Vikings.”

The Vikings took an early 3-0 lead, but could not hold on to it for long. The set was neck and neck until halfway through when the Falcons took a big lead and ultimately won 25-17.

DVC was down 2-1, but the players remained enthusiastic, “Throughout it I stayed positive,” setter Jasmine Assia said. “I feel confident that we can do it.”

The Falcons took the lead to start set four, but it wasn’t long until the Vikings caught up then doubled the falcons score. The Vikings had a big lead, but the falcons slowly caught up. The score was close towards the end of the set and could have gone either way, but the Vikings were able to pull it off in the end and won 25-22.

The game ended with DVC winning the final set 15-9.

“We really pulled it together last minute,” middle hitter Jade Lee said.
