Diablo Valley College women’s soccer team will head to the playoffs after an exciting season.

The Vikings won their last game of the regular season 3-0 at home against American River College.

The Beavers were on a five game losing streak and the Vikings on a two game tie streak. Both teams last win was against Sacramento City College, ARC on Oct. 18 and DVC on Oct. 28.

DVC didn’t waste any time getting the game going. Noelle Lemos scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game and Vanessa Ruvalcaba scored shortly before the end of the first half.

The Vikings scored one point or less in over a third of their games played this season some of which came at the very end of the game.

Scoring earlier and more often is something the team has been working on and they pulled it off in this hard fought match against ARC.

DVC started the season strong with a 4-0 win against Cabrillo College at home on Aug. 26. They won their first seven games and remained undefeated until two-thirds into the season when they lost their first and only game 2-1 to Santa Rosa Junior College.

“The demands of the season caught up,” coach Cailin Mullins said.

She said some concerns was with the team having “lots of opportunity and not finishing,” and the team needing to “be organized offensively and take care of the ball.”

After DVC got their first tie against Folsom Lake the season took a turn. They tied over a third of the remaining games, lost one and won seven including their season high 8-0 victory against Sacramento City College on Sep. 27 and their most recent regular season ending win over ARC.

“It was important to end on solid win,” Mullins said. “It gives us confidence that we can get the ball into the net.”

The team looked excited and confident as they ended their last regular season game.

“Winning brings everyone’s energy and confidence up,” forward Karla Ramos said.

After the last game, the team walked off the field looking just as energetic and enthusiastic as they did going into their first game of the season against Cabrillo.

“We worked so hard to get where we are,” defender Deiziana Dargan said.

The regular season has concluded and now the Vikings have the playoffs to look forward to.

“I’m excited our season hasn’t ended yet,” Ramos said.

DVC’s first playoff game will be on Nov. 19 at home.
