The DeMarcus Cousins trade probably won’t favor the Kings

The end of the NBA All-Star weekend left a sour taste in the mouths of Sacramento Kings fans.

Their best player, DeMarcus Cousins, went down to New Orleans for the All-Star Game and wound up staying down there with Anthony “The Brow” Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans.

Cousins was the Kings’ best player. He lead the team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and minutes. Now the Kings just have a first and second round draft pick, a few guards from the Pelicans, and room to build rather than to contend.

In an interview on ESPN.com, Sacramento Kings general manager Vlade Divac said, “When you make a deal you want to get the most. Right now was the best time, and it was the best offer we had.”

I guess this was the best offer you could get for DeMarcus Cousins before the trade deadline. Steven A. Smith on ESPN’s First Take said, “The Sacramento Kings should be ashamed of themselves.”

On the other side, the Pelicans got a pretty sweet deal.

The Pelicans’ Anthony Davis and now DeMarcus Cousins are a force to be reckoned with down below.

Both Davis and Cousins average over 27 points and 10 rebounds a game this season, but with half the NBA season left this year I don’t think they’re a viable contender.

Davis and Cousins need to get used to playing with each other and build that chemistry that wins games. On paper, where people are just names and not emotions, these two are the perfect big man combo. And on paper the Golden State Warriors are also an amazing team that could win every game, but they’ve been beaten this year.

All the Pelicans need next year is one more productive guard and I believe the New Orleans Pelicans will be in the playoffs next year.
