Do you like food trucks? Do you like live music and drinking beer outside? Are you an indecisive eater (or know one) that needs lots of options to choose from? Are you looking for new, funky ways to excite your tastebuds?

Off the Grid has opened up three brand new evening locations around DVC campus. Monday evening in Todos Santos Plaza in Concord, Tuesday in Walnut Creek in the old McDonald’s location on N. California Blvd., and Wednesday on Gregory Lane in Pleasant Hill. All locations are open from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

All locations feature between eight and ten trucks that rotate weekly and live music. The Walnut Creek location features a beer and wine garden with 6 different beer options (both bottled and from a keg), and 6 different wine options (red, white, and rosé).

Off the Grid was started in 2010 in San Francisco with the idea of highlighting local food truck businesses and creating unique, community building experiences.

Gabriel Anthony, an employee with award winning truck Drewski’s, who sell insanely creative sandwiches like the “Hemi” – slow roasted pulled pork, mac n’ cheese, grilled onions, and cheddar cheese, pressed between two slices of French bread – said his favorite part is “seeing the world and [the] socializing” that he is able to do with the truck.

“The truck Bacon Bacon makes this life changing grilled cheese. I have pictures of me crying the first time I had it. It’s that good,” said Stephanie Davenport. “Most of [the trucks] are fusion, or food I wouldn’t normally try going out,” said Davenport, which adds a little excitement.

The variety seems to be what draws a majority of the crowds. Rob Christiansen, a Walnut Creek business owner and father of four, said it has become his family’s weekly outing, “It’s always reliable, with a great variety, and so far the food has been kid friendly.”

The kid friendly atmosphere attracts a number of the attendees at the Walnut Creek and Todos Santos locations. Kate Constanza said, “I like that it’s an opportunity to get out that is easy and family friendly. My family and I like trying something different each time.”

Off the Grid is great for all ages, adventurous eaters, people who like food trucks and eating outside. They are dog friendly, parking is relatively easy to find in all locations, and great if you are looking for fun new ways to take advantage of the warm weather. They will be in these three new locations for the foreseeable future, and have 35+ locations (serving both lunch and dinner) all over the Bay Area.

Also, coming up this weekend is the Oakland Eat Real festival, an entire weekend long festival featuring a ton of food trucks, local wine and beer, live music. It’s like Off the Grid, but bigger! And it’s FREE!!
