A $1500 budget was approved Tuesday by the Associated Students of Diablo Valley College body for the Model United Nations upcoming trip to the University of Southern California’s Trojan MUN conference in Los Angeles.

John Gibson, a representative of the DVC Model UN, requested the funding which covered roughly half of the proposed budget for the trip. The rest of the funds were raised by the students in a large personal contribution. This is the first allocation of budget funds for the semester by the ASDVC.

The conference, which is scheduled to be from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2, will allow 20 students from the Model UN to participate in a series of different debate competitions. The debates include international, fictional and historical topics such as the European Union, the Serbian genocide and the Ebola crisis in West Africa.

The Model UN plans to hold a brown bag workshop after the conference, which will be announced in November, to pass on their experience with other students.
