News brief: Coaches vs. Cancer basketball game

Austin Lemak, Staff member

On Friday, Jan. 30, Diablo Valley College’s basketball program will be playing in a Coaches vs. Cancer game. Coaches vs. Cancer is nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Admission is free, but the teams are asking for a $5 donation at the door.

Between the two games, there will be a shooting contest featuring lay-ups, free throws, three-point shots and half-court shots. Parents of former DVC student and athlete Lauren McCoullough will be speaking. McCoullough passed away from cancer in 2014.

The women’s basketball team is ranked second in the state and the men’s team is only a couple games out of first.

For a live stream of the game, go to the DVC Athletic department website. For more updates about DVC athletics, see their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
