In their first home victory of the season, DVC defeats Chabot 2-0, but still look to improve on their decision making.

DVC got off to a quick start holding possession for the first ten minutes of the game. The Vikings got a chance on goal early on by forward Julia Curran, her shot went past the goal keeper but off the post.

Many offside calls in the first half plagued DVC’s offense, taking away many scoring opportunities. Head coach Cailin Mullins said, “All of those offside calls were players not thinking about the game the way they need to.”

The second half started off very slow with DVC giving up a lot of the possession in the midfield. DVC had a few scoring opportunities, but nothing to show for it until the end of the second half.

In the 74th minute Curran got the ball down the right side of the field, with only two players left standing in her way of the goal. She put the ball around the defender and then poked it passed the goal keeper, into the far left corner of the net. The Vikings went up 1-0.

“We’ve been trying so hard but nothing has been coming,” said Curran, “it felt really good to finally put one in the back of the net.”

DVC wasn’t done scoring just yet, in the 89th minute, defender Andrea Weinstein had an opportunity, “I saw that the back post was open so I took the chance hoping it would come to me,” said Weinstien, “when it came to me I found the open corner and it went in.”

So far this season we have seen this team struggle with scoring, “it really comes back to decision making,” said coach Mullins, “it was a frustrating game for all of us.”

Now DVC has their first conference game coming up against Santa Rosa; coach Mullins said that Santa Rosa is going to be one of their toughest competitors in their conference.

The next home game will be on Friday, Sept. 25th at 3:30 pm.
