DVC’s volleyball team was defeated by the American River Beavers three sets to zero. The first set was an exciting series of rallies and saves, leading to American River’s first win 24-25.

During the second set, DVC had the lead for the majority of the set. Powerful serves and spikes hit the court on both sides until American River won the second set 21-25. Now at a disadvantage and all odds against them, DVC needed to hunker down and make a move.

Head coach Jackie Ponciano-Babb said, “We came out playing and capitalized on their weaknesses.” The third set started with DVC down by a lot. Things weren’t looking good until DVC began to catch up. Point after point DVC advanced closer to their goal. Things were looking up, but in the end DVC lost the third set 19-25. The game ended with American River having three sets to DVC with zero sets.

On this night, fellow Viking athletes were present in mass to support the volleyball team. Setter Krisha Carpio said, “We were in it the entire time, but we didn’t close. Overall we weren’t there to pay.”

“We played a lot better this week“, said outside hitter Michelle Mayfield, “We fought to the finish.”

Come support them on Friday, October 9th at 6:30.
