The Vikings continue their volleyball season with a great win against Modesto Junior College.  The five-set win was a long back and forth battle between both teams.

They honored the four sophomores, Krisha Carpio, Taylor Patton, Taylor-Marie Kanoe Pruett and Noelle Vleisides before the game.  A great win to send them out, to go along with the blankets and leis that were presented to them during the recognition of sophomores.

First set the Vikings won by a close two points, 26-24 with a great kill from Noelle Vleisides to win the set.  They would go on to lose the second and fourth set as the Modesto Pirates came back in the fourth set to make it a sudden death set.

Coach Jackie Ponciano-Babb, on the back and forth battle said,”We were hot and cold, but it came down to who had the momentum at the right time.”

Great sets from Krisha Carpio helped give momentum to get victories in their set wins. Vikings came up with a victory as they won the fourth set 15-9. Jade Lee set the tone in the last set as her vicious spikes could not be handled by the Pirates. They controlled the whole fifth set and did not let the Pirates have the lead once.

“We played hard, not letting a ball drop, nothing hit the floor,” said setter Krisha Carpio.

Jade Lee returns to the court for this game and her presence helped propel the Vikings to win.  She had key kills and great blocks as she dominated the middle the whole night.

“We wanted it more,” said libero Taylor-Marie Kanoe Pruett after the win.

Even though the season did not go as planned, they still made playoffs. They have a young team that will be back next year with a whole year of playing under their belt. They finished with an 8-13 overall record and looking to make a big push in playoffs.  They won the first round of playoffs in a three sets and are headed to Foothill Tuesday, November 24.
