The Diablo Valley College water polo teams, both men and women, had great seasons, both making it to the Contra Costa College Athletic Association’s State Championship.

The men’s season consisted of 21 wins and 13 losses. They were undefeated in conference with seven wins and were undefeated at home with 4 wins. They went on to win the Big 8 Conference against San Joaquin Delta, then won the NorCal Regional final against West Valley College.

Unfortunately DVC lost the semi-finals in the CCCAA to Long Beach City College, but didn’t come home empty handed, after beating West Valley again to take third place.

The women’s season was just as good, if not better then the men’s. Over all, they had 26 wins and only three losses. They also won the Big 8 Conference when they beat San Joaquin Delta, then won the NorCal Regional final by beating San Joaquin Delta again.

They made it to the CCCAA’s State Championship, but lost to San Diego Mesa. They beat San Joaquin Delta again, placing them in third statewide.

Head coach for the women’s swimming and diving team, Rick Millington said, “It was an enjoyable season. Student athletes are doing great in games and in the classroom.”

When asked about rivals, Millington said, ” Northern California was down a little this year except for DVC, but West Valley is our tradition rival for eight years now.” He went on to say, “We have begun making preparation for next season very early and we are hoping next season will be as good as this one.”
